Synchro-Compur shutter with loose cable-release socket

I've just acquired a 1960 90/6.8 Angulon in a Synchro-Compur 0 shutter. The cabl e-release socket seems very loose and I can't help wondering whether there is a retaining nut about to fall off inside and wreck the shutter.

As the lens was so cheap it doesn't seem worth paying for a professional repair, so does anyone here know enough about the insides of this shutter to tell me wh ether my concerns are justified? I am reluctant to try to open the thing up unti l I have a resonable idea of what I am likely to find.

Apart from this the shutter is just fine, and I'd rather not see it ruined, eith er by a simple problem that's just waiting to happen, or by an incompetent home repair job.

Don't know if the cable release fitting has a nut on the inside or not, but try grasping the fitting with needle nose pliers and while pulling the fitting outwards, turn the lens/shutter counter clockwise. If there is a nut inside, there may be enough friction to hold it in place so that the fitting tightens up. Good luck John

Thanks, but there is a second pin projecting into the casing of the shutter which will prevent the socket turning - presumably to stop it coming undone in this way.

I did actually remove the front cover of the shutter earlier today, but all that told me was that there was no way I was going to attempt any further dismantling. There was far too much machinery inside even to get a clear view of the fitting - whatever it was - that held the socket on. I guess I'll just have to take the risk of the nut (if that's what it is) coming off, or else get my local repair man to sort it out.

These are usually not practical to repair. The cable socket is riveted in place and not intended to be replaced. They can be replaced with new Copal shutter.

Many thanks. I suppose if it is a rivet and is simply loose then I can at least stop worrying about a nut falling off.
