    Printer for printing negatives

I tried printing a negative on Pictorico OHP - that is, I took a digital photo, turned it into black & white and the reversed it - on my inkjet printer. When I printed it at normal resolution, the "negative" was ok, but the resolution of the photographic print was low. When I tried printing the negative at the maximum resolution of my printer, it came out wet and smeared.

Am I wrong to use a normal ink jet printer with normal ink? What are those who are doing this using?

Almost any Epson printer will do fine, especially with the Ultrachrome inks and later versions

    Re: Printer for printing negatives

A friend of mine has been producing digital negs for cyanotypes and Van Dyke prints on an Epson 7600 for a while now. She uses standard roll inkjet transparency media. She did need to work on the density of the print as those processes needed higher contrast to achieve proper results. For more info you might want to try the big Kahuna of the dig-neg field Dan Burkholder:

There are also several web sites that discuss this topic:

Also, read about Mark Nelson's PDN system.

Link seems to be down as I write this but it is active and should be back up soon.
