I've been a member of APUG for a while now, but for some reason only joined up here a few weeks ago. Shooting exclusively LF now (other than my P&S) and love it. 4x5, mostly with a Cambo SCX, but just got an Ansco 5x7 which I'm having some trouble with (see my post in the camera page).
I know of only 1 other LFer in Nanaimo, but it's the internet that's made my learning possible. I guess a short bio is in order...
23 years old, currently a part time student although just doing some upgrading for now. I work at a local drugstore lab, spend most of my disposable income on gear, film, paper and chemicals. I'm just getting involved in alternative processes, hence my desire for a larger camera. I can be a bit of a film nazi at times, but only because I feel like it has been written off by the general public and when it still has a lot to offer, and have a general suspicion that part of the rapid growth of digital is due to manufacturer marketing. Sort of like APS, except digital actually works well I am not anti-digital, and use photoshop often in my dayjob. Not to mention I get to use a pretty sweet monitor in which the screen itself one giant Wacom tablet. I hope to get a good scanner for colour work eventually. I'll stop here before I start an argument...
As far as "Art" goes, I'm still learning technical control but enjoy studying art and art history in general so I hope to eventually develop a truly individual style. One opinion I do have is that I prefer a well executed cliche (Pear in a basket, nude on black background) to an original idea that makes me go "WTF???" (The pickled cow of Turner prize fame).
That's the abridged version, I'm looking forward to wasting countless hours reading and posting here!
