    Quality 11x14 printer

I would like to get a quality printer able to print up to 11x14 for colour work (mostly). I am shooting 4x5 chromes and scan them in an epson 4990 for great 11x14 prints. I would like a printer to go along. Budget: not too expensive please. Preferably ~500 dollars. Please leave your recommendation. I live by Calgary. Thank you.

Epson R1800. I've been using one for several years and like it on both glossy and matte media. Prints up to 13X19 sheets and 13X44 on rolls.

But if you can afford it, an Epson 3800 would save you alot of money over the long run. The ink for this printer is about 40% cheaper per mL than the ink for the 1800.

I have both Epsons and HP's. The HP B9180 is a pretty nifty printer. I have more ink wastage with the Epson compared to the HP.

HP is trouble free and so far bulletproof. I've recommended it many times and no one has had a problem.

    Both put out great prints.

I got the Epson R1800 printer. Got a rebate as long as I got it before the 31st so I got it affordably. Thank you for your input.

LOL, that was quick. I would have recommended the B9180 as well. I believe it also has a rebate running and is a lot more printer for the money than the R1800.

Just curious - in what ways is the 9180 "a lot more printer for the money" ("the money" in this case being roughly $100-$200 more for the 9180 depending on rebates)?

You can find great deals on Epson 2200's. I have seen them for $120-175, and they are great printers.

Well, the ink cartridges for the 9180 are 3 times more expensive than the cartridges for the used Epson R2200 I rapidly replaced it with. $33 per cartridge (HP) vs. $12 for the Epson cartridge.

I sold the B9180. I found a used Epson R2200 with new cartridges in it, and bought it for $150. As I was packing it up to take it to the car, the seller said, "Oh here, I don't need these." and handed me three packs of 13X19 glossy paper (two unopened) worth about $125.

Shop around. If I were going to buy new, I would buy the Epson R2400, or I might look at the R3800 if I thought I was actually going to go through the cartidges to make that on pay on the ink advantage.

On of the things I discovered about the HP9180 is that it has a monitor/ink cycling process that runs randomly so it does not clog up. Guess what.... that uses ink.

Speaking of the 2200, I get my ink here.

Cheapest I have seen and great customer service.
