    Re: Bridges

Took a few shots this morning. One pretty old bridge (well, the lower tunnel portion), and another bridge (not as old). Both were Delta 100. Both Developed in DD-X. BTW, it is really not easy to take large format pictures when it is snowing (trying to hold the umbrella [while changing lenses, focusing, etc] so I don't have to keep wiping the lens, etc...). I am sure there is a trick.

    Re: Bridges

Excuse my ignorance but is it normal for whole plate images to be reversed?

    Re: Bridges

Hi Scott. This is a tintype -- a positive on blackened aluminum. As a positive, the image is taken upside down and reversed. I uprighted the image, but did not correct the reversal. In sum, you get this reversal effect with any positive image, whether dag, wet plate, or other (though of course it can be corrected in digital format). In sum, the reversal is normal for positive images, regardless of plate size. I hope that explanation is understandable, and not pedantic. Ed

Thanks for the explanation Ed, I thought that was the case but not having any experience with the process I just had to finally ask.

Very pretty. I grew up in the Detroit area and never thought much of this bridge in real life. The riverside by night looks downright handsome. Even Sarnia.
