What's good?
Been away too long to talk about galleries.
Don't forget about the Art Institute.
Haven't been there in a while also but if you go to Art Institute check out the Museum of Contemporary Photography who are also nearby. http://mocp.org/
Also you might think about contacting someone at the Art Institute to arrange seeing some photographs from their inventory. I got to see some of Elliot Porters dye transfer images once, really a great way to enjoy up close and personal.http://www.artic.edu/aic/collections...hotostudy.html
The Photography Study Room is available to the public, by appointment, to view selections from the Art Institute’s photography collection. You may discuss your photography interests with the collection manager at the time an appointment is scheduled. Groups and individuals are welcome.
It's the Second City, of course it's got great galleries. I'd call the Chicago Art Institute to ask for referrals for private galleries.
Not sure what you are looking for but:

I suppose what's good just depends on who's exhibiting when you are in town.
