I was wondering if anyone knew if there was anyone in/around San Francisco that offered this service. What is it? It's basically mount a image on a flat sheet of aluminum or similar.
Thanks,

going for that 1980s look...?
You'd be amazed how small the demand is for pictures of trees... - Fred Astaire to Audrey Hepburn

prints mounted on aluminum or stainless steel sheets I mean - ? I remember a lot of people doing that stuff in the late 80s... at least as a 'look'... I just thought it wouldn't be such a desirable thing these days... kind of like a mullet...(?) - or do I have it all backwards here?
Diasec to me is not alu mounting, but mounting/glueing behind a glass or plexi sheet. And not 80s but more 90s, and early 00s. Glass and frame seems the fashionable thing now.... Or?? (never heard diasec mentioned when mounting on dibond or alu, is that a common name for that in the US?)

the pictures mounted on aluminium technique is fra older than 80's !
I use dibond and after i use a frame... alu and dibond are the only archival techniques to keep a large prinr flat !
But becarefull there's some fake dibond, and bad glue as well !
I'm not shure the the Diasec is an archival technique ! but it can be very nice sometimes !
Dibond and diasec is a method we use here.
Print is mounted to dibond*aluminum on plexi* then the diabond is face mounted on cast acrylic, with a clear aggressive adhesive, the back is then cleated to push the whole mount off the wall the edges look good and it is a very secure mount to say the least.
very expensive, but when done well looks very nice.
It does remind me of face to plexi floats of the 70 & 80s .
As far as I understand, Diasec specifically is the trademarked process of an UK company and I have seen lots of photographic work from Europe in Chicago galleries devoted to photography. So, I don't know if anyone in the USA is using Diasec specifically, or if there are fine art printers in the USA who are able to do something similar to the Diasec process.
The fine art print firm that I use in my area mounts to dibond and understands the face mount process in general but doesn't want to get into it because of the need to have a process that maintains totally dust free conditions.
As far as the comments about this being something from 20 years ago, I would dispute that. It seems that using face mounting on dibond is what I've seen being done in the last few years. Last year's Chicago Art Show had a huge number of fine art photography face mounted to dibond with nothing more than braces on the back for hanging.
If someone has had actual personal successful experience of a fine art print place that face mounts to dibond, I would certainly like to know about it.
