    Katrina and 9th Ward Churches

PBS is running a special on the recovery efforts in the churches flooded by Katrina:

The covershot is one of mine. The current collection is here:

I continue to edit, update, and add to the collection.

Wow.....this is important work....almost mind numbingly depressing....but beautifully photographed.
    Thanks,

    Ed,

Your photos are awesome, frightening, and very powerful. Will the photos be archived somewhere as part of the historical record?

Thanks for adding Sam's link. His work is great and he was much closer to the disaster than I was. While we did not work together, we photographed several of the same sites.

As for the long term record - I hope so. I am now following up and documenting the changes since Katrina. You can see a few paired shots taken a year or 18 months apart. I use GPS to get back to the same places.

(These are shots from Bay St. Louis, MI. These building were not on the beach before Katrina, there was another line of businesses and a road between the buildings and the bay. My favorite restaurant was in those buildings and there was no trace of it after the storm. It took me a while to even figure out where I was because all the landmarks were gone.)
