speanburgarts: That's wonderful. She looks so vulnerable (sp) and at ease at the same time.

Thank you Marcus, it is one of my better works because of her, she struck this pose of her own thought and the light illuminated her perfectly.

By the way- on your site, your image of Ellen is stunning, I think the light is acting in a simular manner, but it seems to illuminate the subject even more so.

That IS a beautiful picture! The pose, light and mood created with that lens.

Yes! I agree. I love the mood created by the softness and flare in the older lenses. Please stop the clock so she never gets a day older. She is perfect.

Re: How about a New Portrait thread?

    thanks again for the compliments.

The lense is a 11 1/2 inch Wollensak Versar Portrait and View in a very moody old Regular shutter circa about 1900, by my memory I shot that at about f8 ( old scale ) the exposer was about 1/50.

I am interested if anyone has information about using this lense in the convertable mode ? I understand the Versars were convertable ?

Here's a page that mentions that. Some had 2 scales. If you simply unscrew the front group from the shutter you'll end up with about a 22 inch lens. Just double the aperture numbers. f8 will be f16 or very very close. Only you can decide if it's 'good enough' or not. Sometimes fuzzy is better.

Now you have caused me to go ummm ... the link you posted is a scan of the original specifications for the versar lenses, however it lists a 2 inch diameter for a 11 1/2 inch 8x10 lense and a 2 1/2 inch diameter for a 14 3/4 inch 10x12 lense. I measured and I apparently have the 14 3/4 inch lense. Thus I assume the convertable size would be about 28 inch ? My lense also has the second scale.

I will try it and see.

on the other hand I just noticed it says 8x10 on the lense thus it is the 11 1/2 inch. In any case that is enough lense for my work.
