If condition is as described, I'd say it was a very good deal.

Cool Re: Arca Swiss 4x5 4"x5" Oschwald View Camera

The Oschwald brothers were the founders Of Arca Swiss. the camera is easily worth the winning bid, but the parts are not compatible with the present day rails. the function carriers fit the rails a bit different than the newer F line and Metrics.

I got a 5x7 of the same vintage, and find it as easy to use as my 4x5.

You will like these cameras. They are not the king of backpackers, but are the easiest to use I have ever owned.

Go to precision Camera web site or call Bob Watkins and talk to him about the camera- he knows tons.

Kerry Thalmann is a big Arca user also.

At least next time I go hiking I don't need to take my 8x10 dorff anymore...It's so funny, I just threw a bid, what if, and at the end I didn't expect to win at all. Lets hope that lensboards would be at least compatible.

From memory (I had one about 25 years ago) that model takes the large 171x171mm lens boards which are compatible with....errr...other Arcas of that vintage.

It does indeed take the 171 lensboards. I prefer them when you have a copal #3 shutter. And I even mounted a Nikon 610mm F9 on one (it is for sale on this forum), which smaller boards could not accomodate.

The 171's are not offered in new cameras, but you can buy the lensboards new with no problem.
