What are you doing to get 1.3 GB files? Do you need that much resolution and is it real resolution? I ask because you can count on the PS file being 2-3x as large if you use layers, and pretty soon disk storage is going to be a problem as well.

As I said, I building a new PC. Everything will be big enough. I'm just trying to find out how much memory is optimum. I'm not buying a Mac.
Ken, I have some scans I did in the past when I was working with chromes. They were 6x17 and they were well over a gig. Vista and PS , no problems.
Rob - Sounds great. Thanks for being patient.
What's to be gullible about ?
I am a software consultant, using PCs for the past 15 years. I never really thoought about Macs until I needed to replace my ailing Dell laptop. I was extremely cautious and asked (read pestered) lots of people about the viability of continuing to do Windows development work.
Someone told me about Parallels allowing you to use Windows and OS X, not only one the same machine but at the same time; you even get the OS X menu at the top of the desktop and the Windows taskbar at the bottom. You get to copy stuff out of one OS into the other; if I select an Excel file in Visual Studio for Windows, it opens in Office 2004 for Mac.
I mentioned, I don't need to install an processor sapping anti-virus software; simply use OS X for internet stuff and only transfer stuff to Windows when you really need to.
And only buy ONE operating system when I only need ONE instead of wasting money on TWO.
And I don't run anti virus software because I'm not fool enough to let my PC get infected. Trying to put the fear of virus into someone just to get them to buy TWO operating systems they don't need doesn't cut it for me. If you've been developing software that long you should know how to close the security holes without using virus software.
If I wanted to know about Macs I would have asked about Macs. I didn't.
The converted preaching are always the worst!
Nice photo Joanna!
You might want to look at this, re there not being any 64bit CS3, and the ancillary problems with X64:

While I am not a Mac fan, Macs seem to do a better job with using extra ram for buffering, without the device driver issues you get with X64.
