Thread: why bother with scanning in 16 bit?

Let me say that anyone who has not seen the results that Kirk gets with his digital printing can't really appreciate the quality of his work fully. His digital prints are easily the equal of the best work that I have seen.

His results speak to the fact that he is either using excellent technique when scanning and printing, or he's a real lucky SOB. I tend to think it's the former.

    Kirk,

I am afraid that I would take that from Silverfast with a pinch of salt. I have also read that from them, but they don't provide any reasoning as to why. I suspect that they think their sw is superior to PS.

Fom a technical perspective, I think Michael agreed with me. My proviso was that the edits in the scanner sw did not effect the scan itself. If they do, as Michael pointed out, then the scanner is probably the way to go.

From a workflow perspective, that is another issue. I think that there are advantages both ways. For example, when batch scanning, saving the editing to PS could be more efficient.
