Wiring a PC sync cord - need info on monoplug

I need to modify a PC sync cord to use a 1/4 monoplug for a strobe pack, and I need to know if anyone can tell me what should be connected to what part of the monoplug.

On the PC connector, there is the small center pin, and the outer shield. Which of these goes to the tip of the monoplug? Anyone know? Unfortunately, I don't have one here with a monoplug to test. I have looked around the web a little, and haven't found the information yet.

    Many thanks.

I don't think it matters, since the shutter simply closes the circuit.

If it does matter, the tip usually corresponds to the core in most other applications.

I think it can matter but the problem is different packs may do it differently. Which pack?

Unless you need something special I don't think you'll save any/much money buying the parts and making your own versus getting pre-made. I made a household to female 1/4" but that was only because I couldn't find anybody selling a premade one.

Not trying to save money, but I have a bunch of sync cords here and really don't want to discard them when a simple jack change at one end will solve my connection issue.

I have some Norman packs, but I was under the impression that most of the packs used the same polarity?

Apparently, the polarity can be a factor in some conditions. Having the polarity wrong can make the connection less reliable. Plus, I'd rather not connect a camera to a pack with the polarity inverted in case there is any chance the camera will be less protected with the polarity reversed.

Nick, I'm not seeing a diagram for PC connections on there, although I do see one for a monoplug. However, I would not assume that the exact same conditions apply to a PC sync as are applied to a guitar connection. That's why I asked.

It doesn't usually make a difference with most modern systems, but always wire the center terminal (PC or plug) to positive, outer terminal to negative.

    RDKirk,

OK, so inner PC connector to the tip on the monoplug? Sounds good to me. I'll do it tonight.

    Thanks,
