    Question Efke 25 and filters?

So from what I understand, Ekfe 25 is Orthopanchromatic, which as I understand means it's almost red blind, but not quite. So I'd like to use some filters with it, but I'm a bit worried about it. I'm guessing that using a red filter would be a bad idea. How about yellow, or even orange, though? Are these within the realm of possibility?

    Thanks in advance!

I tested this film with various filters a few years ago. If you like I can post it here for you when I get home today?

I should have added that I use yellow to deep red filters with this film regularly.

I would love to see them as well.
I still think that the look of ortho film was far better than the new panchro, ...I have never liked the way reds translate in in panchro.
    It is not natural.
Andrew I am waiting with anticipation,

I'll chip in with an 'I'd like to see Andrew's comparison as well' post...

    Re: Efke 25 and filters?

Sorry chaps, but I don't have comparision prints. I only have my data.

The following filters are Kodak Wratten gels:

    #47 Factor: 6x
    #58 4x
    #8 1.2x
    #12 1.5x
    #15 1.5x
    #21 3x
    #25 4x

If N development is given the film the actual N number would be (filter's effect on contrast):

    With the #47 N- 2/3rds
    #58 N+ 1/3rd
    #8 N- 1/3rd
    #12 N- 1/3rd
    #15 N- 1/2
    #21 N- 1/2
    #25 N- 2/3rds

So, whenever I shoot with the #25 and my film should get N development, I actually give it N+2/3rds. If I have to give N+ development, then I have to add on the +2/3, again with the #25. The same thing goes with the other filters too. I have to take into consideration the filter effect on contrast. This is nothing different than what I already do with TMY and HP5+...just the factors and filter effects are different.

Reciprocity is interesting too. It has very good characteristics, comparable to Tmax films (if not better!)

I don't give any compensation until the 16 second mark (+1/3 stop). If my metre says 64 seconds, I only give 1.5x or 2/3rds stop more exposure. No development compensation is necessary.

I've been using this data and this film for a few years now with fine results in
    Pyrocat-HD (5ml + 5ml + 500ml) EI 16

Hope some of this helps or at least gives you someplace to start!

    Andrew,

Thanks for posting the info. I guess I'll have to go out and start playing a little bit!

    Thanks again!
