When on my own a black T-shirt, in urban areas focusing bellows with a magnifier.
The poll is somewhath appls and oranges as "loupe" doesn't really belong in this category.
I have long found tubes to be the best for field work and have used a black jacket for several years. Before that, BTZS.

A T-shirt for me too. The neck end snugly fits around the spring back and the sleeves allow me to easily check critical focus with a loupe.
There was an article about dark cloths on one of the Magnachrom issues. I don't remember which though.
I started with a rectangular but wind was a problem. I switched to a black T-Shirt. With the shirt neck around the camera back, it stays in place and the sleeves gives access for a loupe.

For my 7x17, I really like Kevin Saitta's dark cloth. This cloth is absolutely light proof! I also own one from the Formulary and that one is like having a white tee shirt over my head (it's not nearly as lightproof as Kevin's)
I'm just learning, but I've found a dark cloth heavy and cumbersome, so I use a loupe and my black running breaker.

I got a Black Jacket, and I use it in specially challenging circumstances. I have the original version and it is a bit too stuffy to use in hot weather. So although I would recommend the Black jacket, I suggest getting the hybrid version.
On the other hand, I usually use my trusty dark T-shirt.
I avoid the use of a darkcloth whenever possible because I don't like to be separated from what is going on around me. The plain 4 ft (1.2 m) square one I carry and hardly ever use was home-made from two pieces of heavy close-weave cotton - black for one one side and white for the other. It turned out to be rather expensive and heavy in comparison to commercially available ones, but it is exactly what I want. It gets used more as a reflector or flag/cutter than as a darkcloth.
Best,
Helen
