    Microtek doesn't recognize holders

    Anyone,

I have been scanning my backlog of 4x5 negs on my Microtek i800 for the past two days and have been unable to use ICE. When I do the overview scan I get a message saying that ICE is disabled because I am not using Microtek's EZ-Lock holders.

In fact I am using EZ-Lock holders. I always have. I am not using them upside down or sideways, or any other way but inserted correctly and flush with the back frame of the glass.

ICE should be available regardless of the holder being used. But it is more absurd that Microtek's software cannot recognize their own holders.

I am using Microtek's Scan Wizard Pro software as a plugin to Elements residing on a Dell operating under Windows XP.

Is this a problem similar to the Microtek striping problem where you delete all the data files so that the Microtek software can regenerate the defaults?

Does anyone know a cure for this problem?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am not familiar with those holders but is there any way that excess film or something else is covering part of a calibration gap/notch during your scans? I know this will cause problems with Epsons where they miscalibrate. The ICE issue due to the film holder is quite odd!

Al, I don't know the solution but I know the problem. I basically stopped using my i800. I have never had ICE work to my satisfaction and have had problems with "focus" when using the film holders. Plus, it is the slowest scanner I have ever used! It sits on my desk unused. When I really need to scan a neg I just put it on the glass.
