    5x7 to 4x5 Reducing back - Success!

    Hey, everyone -

BUffed out the final coat of Danish oil on the 5x7 to 4x5 reducing back I made for the Seneca. I ended up finding a Graflok for the project, which made things go together much quicker:

The base frame is mahogany, mortise and tenoned together:

The little locking pegs for the reversible back are some nails that were lying around, cut and ground. Inside's painted flat black:

After the oil cures for a week or so, the wood's either getting lacquer or shellac as a topcoat. Suntanning the wood for about a day darkened the mahogany quite a bit. Should match the rest of the camera before too long.

This was a fun little diversion while I let other panels being glued up dry for a bit. I appreciate all the help and input folks here gave me on it.

    woww.... looks awesome!

I compared my Kodak half plate (with its 4x5 reducing back) to the Korona and Speed graphic. Oh man it's huge. It's enjoying the custom lensboard though!

    Damn!!!
    That is fantastic.
I only wish I was half that good with woodworking.
Ever consider your own camera from scratch?
