Question Busch Pressman D or Super speed Graphic?

Busch Pressman D or Super speed Graphic; which one of these cameras has more rise in the front? (110-135 lens range)

25mm rise for the Super Graphic, 55mm rise for the Busch Pressman D.

The Busch has a spring back. The Super Graphic has the Graflok style back.

Re: Busch Pressman D or Super speed Graphic?

Thanks for the comments. I have read that some 125-135mm lenses do not work well with the Busch Pressman D (which is the camera I have decided to buy), as they do not allow for much movements.

Does anyone know what 125 or 135mm lenses to look out for that will allow for good movements on the Pressman D?

For the kind of work you indicated in a earlier post, you'll need more coverage than the usual 135-150mm Optar/Raptar/Ektar/Xenar/Tessar can give you. My first choice would be a 135mm Symmar.

If a 127 or 135mm lens is an f4.5, it won't have much coverage for 4X5. Most slower lenses in this size range do. If you spot one but are in doubt about it, come back with another question.

I'm very glad you asked before buying. I think many potential photographers must have been frustrated over the years by these lenses that don't allow use of movements.

My Busch Pressman D with Raptar 135 doesn't show evidence of vignetting when using front rise. Even if it had a bit, it would be recoverable by dodging during printing.

    Mr Purdum,

Thank you so much for you comments. I still feel unsure which lens to actually buy to allow for the movements that I require, but I will be sure to post my queries before I purchase a lens. I think that due to the fact that I wish to photograph mosty architechtural elements I'm looking for an affordable 125mm to 135mm lens that will allow for as much movement as is possible with the Busch pressman D. If there is anyone out there that could offer me any further advice I would be most grateful.

    Thank you

I would vote for a 135 Wide Field Ektar. Affordable and with lots of wiggle room on a 4x5.

I recently bought a nice Busch. It came with a Berlin Dagor but I upgraded to a Fujinon W 135/5.6 which seems to work just fine with the little amount of playing around I have been able to do.

To me the movements seem fine but I think I will miss not having the swing capability. Some have remarked about how difficult it is to obtain lens boards for this camera, but Jim from Midwest sent me one no problem.

Its a nice little compact box that looks cool: very retro. The Super Speed looks more 1970's somehow. Both seem like fine cameras but I like the Busch Pressman D.
