Thanks, everbody. Pretty much what I expected.

At this point, I'm not inclined to have it repaired and I'm probably better off keeping it. I'll bump the existing ad with a price reduction and see what happens.

PS - Brian, You'll be comforted to know that I have quarantined the 150 so that my other Schneiders don't get infected.

    Now if they'd charge $150 for fixing a 480mm Symmar, that's a different story....

I'll swap for a 135mm with a bit of the same thing. I like the 150mm length and coverage. I'll even throw in a 89mm to sweeten it up. No shutters just elements.

That said, the lens is in the early stages of "Scneideritis." There are maybe 8 randomly spaced bubbles where the front element sits in the barrel. This condition obvoiusly has no affect on the images it produces, but there seems to be a perception that the lens is "defective" as a result of the Schneideritis by prospective buyers.

Enter Schneider Optics...For a not so paltry sum of $150 (considering the monetary value of this lens), the fine people at Schndeider are willing to restore it to its original beauty.

So, my question...Is it worth the price to "fix" what is essentially a cosmetic imperfection for the sake of fetching a better resale price?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and perspective.

    Scott,

They charged me the same price for repairing the front element of my 355 G-Claron... are you sure it's a different cost for fixing your 480?

    Cheers

I thought "Schneideritis" was some little white pieces of crud flaked off something and still inside the lens elements.

    Wilhelm,

For more info on "Schneideritis," please follow the link. I'm sure there are other threads, but there's not a lot more one needs to know, IMHO.
