Confused by all those Eyes and Spyders...

Hello,

I am considering getting (finally) some calibration unit for my monitor and wondering which version would be reasonable. For Sypders there are Express, Suite and Pro, for the Eye-One there is Huey (probaly just a toy), Lt and 2.

What I expect - well of course to calibrate my monitor (both CDR and the LCD on the laptop). It would be nice to be able to have 2 different calibrations settings - for the daylight and for the night - as the color of the light in the room is changing. I do not plan to print at home so some options for the printer do not play a role.

I have not, but it's probably... certainly better than nothing, and maybe better than others in the price range. If it is anything like the Eye-One 2 as far as its color accuracy, I'm sure it will work just fine despite its lack of manual controls.

A message to those unsure about calibration:
I eventually found that all the tests and comparisons between calibration devices are meaningless compared to the difference between having calibration, and not having any at all. I put off getting mine for years because I kept reading all the test reports on the interweb with indecision... years of wasted paper, ink, time, money... and it is confusing, and while research ultimately helps, just get the device that fits your budget and does what you need it to do.

Most of the "pucks" work similarly and will do an adequate job for monitors.

One of the best bargains going at the moment is the Monaco Optix XR from Midwest Photo at somewhere inthe range of $150 as a 'show special' .... if I remembered the exact price i would quote it but I don't so ..... as you hear so often here .... call Jim (614) 261-1264).

The Optix XR is a good unit. I have both the Optix XR and the Eye-1 Display 2, but haven't performed any tests to critically compare them. Both seem to work fine.

Note, the Optix XR has recently been discontinued by X-Rite, after their merger with Gretag-Macbeth.
