    Pro bono tax reporting

i know that there are a lot of pros that visit this forum, so i thought i'd ask. i'm doing a photo job for a non-profit and i wanted to know if there is a standard from i should have them fill out documenting my donated labor and equipment for tax reporting purposes? they are a registered non profit, and can provide me a copy of their 501 paperwork.

I will defer to any tax lawyers out there, but I do not think you can deduct your time and equipment, beyond the actual cost of materials.

While you can't take a charitable contribution deduction for your time and the value of the equipment as others have said, don't forget that you potentially can take a deduction for the out of pocket costs of doing the work such as film used and also for any tangible property you give them such as prints, boxes, frames, etc. Also, you can take a charitable contribution deduction fat the IRS charitable mileage rate for any driving you do to photo shoot locations, their place of business, etc. So if these kinds of things amount to enough to worry about, keep a record of your mileage and the costs of things used or given to them. Things might vary depending on your particular situation (e.g. whether you're a professional photographer or not, whether you itemize your deductions vs using the standard deduction, etc.) but that's all beyond the scope of this forum.

thanks for the additional comments, brian. there won't be enough consumables to make it worth recording. also, they've agreed to pay a small amount that will just cover my lab costs. it's been a good year, pay it forward.
