    Actually, these essays sound like they could have been written by many of my first year college students. Both the grammar and the critical thinkiing these students display is about par for the course.

    Now I'm depressed!

    Did anyone notice the one about halfway down that seems like it's written by a college graduate? Either someone's way ahead of his friends, or else has an overzealous daddy. Or bought it from those classifieds in the back of rolling stone.

    Does anyone do that anymore, now that the internet has made plagiarism so easy?
    As an English teacher, I can affirm that the sale of essays goeth forth (and fifth and sixth). Mastercard, et al. What language do these students speak? I looks nothing like the English of many of my students--these know too many big words.

    I skimed them but is perhaps the most depressing is how accurately so many of the kids described the world Adams lived in as different from the world today. Many of us spend so much time in the wild that we tend to forget how little of it is left.
