Playboy sold off fine art oversized FLAT prints packed like fine art for $3.00 each and shipped for pittance.

My last ever wife did hand touchup for Playboy by courier 50 miles north.

5 years ago i ran over an article about a photographer who had died at that time, and his working for Playboy and Penthouse and others, and the fact that everything he shot was on 35mm SLIDE film..

They were using the bio on the guy as an introduction to selling his collection of i think, around 380,000 slides that he had taken for the nude magazines.

I have some commercial success in marine electronics and IT and don't expect that to be replicated in photography, even if the skill or uniqueness is comparable.

When I sell/do marine electronics, the customer gains a competitive edge in their business, an efficiency, or additional life safety.
When I make a photo, it's something most people simply say pretty and scroll by... Most people would not pay for a nice print. I might try some print on demand books sometime for B&W photography. I've had some made for mixed purposes and they are quite good.

There's not much money to be made in print on demand books of photos, but it would scratch the itch to share the beauty of what I see/photograph.

I have collected some pictorialist and modern photographers' works. But photo history is something I am kinda nerdy deep into, so I wouldn't expect most photographers to have favorites in that realm or even study photo history.

I saw an advertisement recently from a photographer - he was offering FREE prints, just pay for shipping. I suppose from a marketing perspective, maybe it made sense for him - I think it was 5x7 size only, so perhaps larger print sales will materialize later. Good luck to him.

Personally selling prints means I can afford additional materials or equipment. I've paid for my astrophotography gear from print sales. I'd like a new telescope though...

There used to be at least one store on Hollywood Blvd that sold studio and actors' promo 8x10 glossies for a few bucks. Before digital. I can only imagine now.

that's crazy 35mm ?
my ex boss was propositioned many times by underworld thugs to purchase her 8x10 studio camera to make porn. that was in the 70s and 80s and she refused continuously, maybe 35mm film is as good as 8x10 these days. They were no Jackie Treehorn.

ALL colour commercial work was photographed in reversal (slide) film. That's what the printing industry required. The only pro photographers that used colour negative film were wedding and portrait, because the deliverable was typically framed prints or an album of postcards.

there were at least 10. much easier to intimidate photographers and try to grab up their gear.
soon after after the last time she said no she was mugged walking home from her studio riddled with broken bones ( osteoporosis ) and left on the street for someone to find. they didn't bother her again ...
