This is a very fine camera. It really is the The Grandmaster Technika. The stopped making it since there was not enough demand. When E6 chrome process with the much finer grain came out you would get nearly the same quality from 4x5" as you had with E3/E4 chromes on 5x7". There is though one flaw. It is very heavy. Look for one on the german Ebay. ebay.de. there is one there right now :https://www.ebay.de/itm/285654957572?

This is a great camera and yes it is heavy at about 13lbs with a lens and film holder. Hand held photographs are not out of the question since the weight helps to stabilize things. I use mine with a Rodenstock 210mm or a 120mm Super Angulon and have had good results. Mine has the the standard grip as opposed to the leather strap which makes for a better support for the weight and it has the optical finder which works well with the 120mm lens. Good luck in tracking one down - you won't regret it.

It’s not rare, only it’s a so good camera that most of the owners don’t part of them (mine it’s not for sale)

I never thought it was a handheld camera.

Ahh, the days when an industrial photographer wore a suit and tie. And dress shoes to climb ladders! I started out as an industrial shooter in 1984, but by that time there was no longer a dress code (apart from safety gear). And sadly, I never got to use a 5x7 Technika.

There are eight of them for sale on EBay right now. The bigger problem is the scarcity of the larger sized lensboards needed; but you could simply get an adapter board to accept conventional size Technika boards. Now 5X7 holders themselves in good condition are getting scarce.

Fair point Drew. I have a Technika V in 5x7 and have a few large boards, including a main one I use with a standard 4x5 lens board adapter, which would probably be the way to go. A couple of the Linhof servicing folks still around may be able to make one of these up from spares. Lovely camera.

I think one could make the case that the 5 x 7 Technika with its rangefinder and kitted out with the multi-focal view finder and anatomical grip constitutes the ultimate hand held camera. Well I've never hand-held one myself, not sure I've ever even been in the same room with one.

In his piece on Carl Zeiss Oberkocken here: https://www.arnecroell.com/zeissoberkochen.pdf, Arne Croell describes three lenses shown as prototypes at Photokina in 1966 that could have been for use with the 5 x 7 Technika: a 110 mm Hologon, a 210 mm Planar and a 500 mm Tele-Tessar. These never made it in to production.
