    newbie omega d3 enlarger

happy new year good folks. quick question. i was given an omega d3 enlarger. it looks complete. i have no experience with enlargers or dark room printing but i want to make this work. im in the process of aquiring some enlarger lenses. the d3 came with 2 cones. a stubby and long one. im just wondering how the lenses would mount into them. i dont see any threads on the cones. is there a ring that tightens behind the lens to make it fit? thanks for any information

Yes a ring will hold the lens. The rings are still available new.

With the D3, the limiting item (hardest to find) might be the focus cam. Then you can build the rest of it from there. That is the matching cone (next harder to find) and lens for the cam (easy to find).

Do you have the PDF manual that tells what goes with what?

You can avoid the use of a focussing cam for the autofocus system.
The Omega D3 can, with some DIY imagination, be easily converter into a manual focus enlarger.
This is what I did long time ago with my D3 and Chromega D4.
The photos I show will explain a lot:

And yes this is an old PRIOX negative carrier with glass and variable masks, allowing all formats from 24x36mm till 4"x5".
Again, with some DIY inspiration, I managed to fit it the D3 perfectly...

if you come across what was referred to as the "auxiliary focus attachment" (or something like that). it's a flat lens board with a bellows that is on a rack (like the front standard of a camera). .. BUY IT .. it will eliminate any need of cones and focus rails in the back..

KHB seems to have them in stock

There is a 90mm focus track on ebay now if you don't already have one.

KHB Photographics in Toronto is a leading source for Omega enlarger information. their site is certainly worth a look.
