Welcome, CrisMar. I'm sure I speak for many when I say I'd like to know more about you. When you say "his subject," do you mean all photography, large format photography, film photography in general? Are you planning to develop and print your own film? Have you already acquired equipment? Color and B&W interest both?

The LF Home Page tab offers quite a bit for getting started. Some is outdated, some doesn't go out of date.

Let us know how we can help.

    Re: Hello from Italy

I am a "son of digital" photographer, and a collector and tinkerer of (too much) old camera equipment (aka G.A.S. syndrome). I recently bought a 5x7 body that I plan to restore and use. I have no experience in film development nor in printing at this time, but I plan to do so in the next future. I shoot a couple of rolls in medium format, and it was a absolutely terrifing and extatic experience. Mainly interested in BW.

    Re: Hello from Italy

CrisMar, I can relate to your situation, as I was approximately at the same stage with my photography using MF and 4x5 LF film cameras about 15 years ago when I decided to take the plunge. However, I've always felt that 'I enjoy a good learning curve' and for those who like to use film and make prints in their darkroom that are "born wet" there is A LOT TO LEARN and experience. And the journey should be great fun and very rewarding. Indeed, I found this Forum a great resource for useful information to help you along. 'Enjoy...
