Absolutely love the Redwoods image, Vaughn. All the images posted so far are very nice, but to my wee brain this Redwoods image just screams "Put me on ULF, please!"

Thanks. Yes...I should not have borrowed that 11x14!! I have a Chamonix now.

The burned portion of the trees -- burnt cavities at the base -- are large enough that they need information in them (IMO). I was able to keep some detail and a lot of texture in there.

    Taken with a borrowed homemade 11x14 (under 7 pounds) and a 355mm G-Claron.

My triplet boys were 4.5 years old and around this age I would take them to the redwoods often, with the hope of getting at least one exposure in. I would find a image (in this case along a lonely lovely dirt road and zero traffic) where I could break out the camera, get lunch out for the three boys, and while they were occupied eating, I'd set up the camera and get the photo taken before the boys finished lunch and started to run between the legs of the tripod, or wander off and fall in a creek, or something.

It was great when they got a little older, became my 'figures in the landscape' and would hold still up to two minutes for photographs in the redwoods, then go exploring while I made more images. I kept it to one image a trip with the boys in the landscape to keep them excited to do it for me every time we went out.

There was wonderful light present for this image -- slightly diffuse but still direct light coming thru the trees. My Pentax meter read from 5 to 10, exposed at 7 . I used f/64 for 30 seconds on FP4+ rated at 100 (no extra time for reciprocity failure). Developed in Rollo Pyro.
    That is an absolute cracker

Well done! Great feeling of the atmospheric conditions. The composition is active, yet well balanced. I like your use of shutter speed, also -- just a hint of movement in the train adds a lot to the image. Plus it provides a great example to the difference in the appearance of movement coming towards that camera and movement straight across the view of the camera at the same time.

It might be a bit silly, but I love the trees against the rock face down in the lower right corner. It would take a mighty long lens to isolate those!

11x14 Carbon print. "Through the Portal"

Just a little way up from the Yosemite National Park entry on Hwy 140...which is just up the highway from the town of El Portal. It did not come out exactly what I wanted as the bus stopped for me coming through, when I really wanted it to be moving the whole time. Still a fun photo for me.

Wow! So many details had to come together for this fine photograph!
