Francis (or Fonz, or Popdoc?)...my wife and I will be flying into Sarasota on April 24th and spending a week with my two sisters and their husbands on Casey Key - which is apparently about a fifteen minutes drive from Clyde Butcher's Venice gallery...where he also has his huge darkroom! Might it be possible to call ahead and arrange to see this darkroom?

Am very interested as I also do very large (to 40x60 inch) prints by hand, and would love to see Clyde's setup! I'll likely just contact the gallery about this...but in the meantime - any "inside info." would help! Thanks!

The Butchers are great folks. Visited them and got the tour. They publish (or you can call) when Clyde will be there as well as the timing of the tours.

Most importantly- sign up and take their “swamp walk” that is based from their gator alley gallery!

This. And I second on taking the swamp walk. Last time I was there they offered two different tours. As mentioned earlier, you may want to call ahead and get more information straight from them.

Both locations are certainly worth visiting. When I went to the Venice gallery I happened to be there when they opened the darkroom to visitors. It is one of the great darkrooms ! I do not know how regularly they do this so it is worth a call ahead.
