Why do I think of the Martian war machines when I look at that picture?

We rented large ladders this size for pro architectural etc shoots and mounted a tripod head through one of the holes on top wrung...

Issues include sway in the wind and (dangerous) little space to work camera on top... :0

Used them in the studio with strobe, cut out the vibrations, but still dangerous...

Architectural Photograper Ezra Stoller used some crazy configurations to get the angles needed for his images.

Pretty hard to beat Melvin Vaniman. He used a 16 inch cirkut panoramic camera on top of his poles. Google him, a very interesting person that met an untimely death but not from a tall tripod or pole.

I haven't found a better copy of this image, but you get the idea.

My first large format camera was a Deardorff 8x10, later joined by a Deardorf 11x14 and a Canham 8x10. Then it was a turn of Phillips 8x10, which was very fashionable at one point because it's light, and finally a Gibellini 11x14. https://www.massimovitali.com/large-...as-a-timeline/
Though, per his website, now he is using digital medium format.

This shows Alec Soth using the same tripod that I use.

I pity those folks photographing the Midwest, up on their car and motorhome roofs trying to see over the cornstalks. Here we have cliffs and mountains when we need a high viewpoint.
And some of those "tripod" examples posted on this thread more resemble a forest fire lookout station.

I have a 10' ladder with a tripod head attachment I stuck on. Pain in the bum to lug around, though
