Grafmatic handle repair

I have a couple of 2x3 Grafmatics that have had the dark slide handle broken off and lost. Before I go on a design and engineering spree, has anyone worked out a way to replace these handles?

I have one that someone built a wire bail handle for that was riveted to the edge of the darkslide. All you need is a loop you can get your finger into.

It looks like the bail was epoxied onto the remains of the original handle.

Yeah, it looks like that to me, too. I don't have any remains to epoxy to. It broke off flush with the end of the darkslide. I think I'll have to drill out the rivets, remove the remains, find a suitably thin piece of metal or plastic, make rivets from something, and glue it all back together.
