Probably not, most of the ones I see advertised are for tracing, if you're adventurous you could replace the
white LED's with red ones or if you're not adventurous, overlay it with a red gel.
From my understanding they're edge lit like a LCD monitor, the diffuser panel is what glows from the LED's .

if you don't need a large one, I wonder if an iPad with colour filter set to red would work. be more spendy but if you have one that is old and gathering dust...otherwise I'd just get a sheet if gel and overlay.

My dad tried making one with only red LEDs. However, it is not feasible. I think the white LED is pretty good too. Its diffuser is also clearer and less glare.

The very thin light tables have LEDS around the edge of the diffusion material light monitors do. Not something practical to DIY.
