This seemed to me an unexpected curiosity: while checking the negative stage alignment on my Beseler 45 MC? with a Versalab I raised the head all the way up, inserted a carrier with the Versalab alignment glass and checked the alignment. At this height the dot was perhaps half an inch away from where one would wish. I had the cold light head turned on to warm up for printing, and left the carrier in place for a minute or two. The 'dot' slowly crept toward the center, and perfect alignment. So much for the cold in cold light. I knew it wasn't, but it seemed interesting to watch the change as the glass and, I suppose, the carrier heated slightly.
