Most women I show my photographs to suggest I take pictures of people instead of "things".
Women in general are more social and more likely to appreciate portraits and people-oriented scenes. Plus they have the people skills to bring it about.
Whereas scenics take a lot of solitary effort, not to mention hauling equipment a long way, not the first choice for a lot of women.
My copy of the "Witch of Kodakery" is lent out and I don't remember her name, but it is an interesting story of a pioneer woman Photographer in the early 1900's. She was a contempory of George Eastman and Martin Johnson.
Thanks everyone.
I got some new names to check out.
Much appreciated and hope everyone has a happy new year.

Com'on, we all know that womyn belong nude in the landscape, as the great masters like Wynn Bullock and Jock Sturges have shown us the true path....
Give me a break!

I don't have the courage/feel uncomfortable approaching people to take their portraits. Even in my own family, I just sort of sneak pictures by standing nearby.
I prefer shooting landscapes in 8x10, but seem to lack the courage or the knowledge of how to promote myself to go much beyond the shooting/printing stage.
I'm not sure who Francesca Woodman is, nor do I suppose I really care. End of rant, time for breakfast.
her work is wonderful. she gets accused of navel-staring, but if so, she might be the high water mark of navel-staring. nice navel, too.

I made the Bullock/Sturges comment in jest but the comment about women being more sensitive to portraits is more telling. Why should we categorize and qualify photographers at all? What does having a Vagina have to do with making a photo?

Your comment makes me wonder whether the brain has anything to do with making a photo.
Q - What does having a Vagina have to do with making a photo?
A - Because that is where my shutter is!
Well, you can take my picture, then!
