Want to get my dusty old Durst L184 in working shape

I want to use 35mm, 120 and 4x5 negatives. What film holders do I need?

It has a LATUB w- a 50mm lens. What are those odd looking pawls on either side of the lens?

The LATUB body will rotate - is that normal?

I was hoping to use Jens as a resource. Other forums say he's died. His telephone numbers don't connect, yet someone has kept the website alive.

If your negative carrier is a Durst NEGA 205, you can use the Durst MAVET 138 into and all LAPFE masks will fit on this MAVET 138, also the Durst LADANE that you can use with small and medium format negative.
Latub have an interchangeable lens ring to accomodate many size, it is probably what you rotated.
Download a Durst 184 instructions online, a lot of information there. Also read this topic https://www.largeformatphotography.i...wanted-to-know

I use the 10x10 glass carrier for all formats on my L1840. Mine has a slot below the negative for masks. I made the masks perfectly centered over the lens. The negative carrier has wiggle room. So I kind of guess where the middle of the glass is when I place the negative and when I project the image, I can usually wiggle the negative stage to get it the negative perfectly centered over the mask. Other people put the masks in the glass sandwich.

I also have a MAVET that fits in place of the 10x10 glass and holds a 5x7 glass. I don't have any interest in messing with my 10x10 glass, so I don't use it, the 10x10 glass works just fine.

If you have CLS1840 or CLS2000 lamphead, you cannot use glassless carriers.

Jens is deceased and rarely fulfilled small orders anyway. I just use voided 10-mil mylar sheets of Cibachrome paper with sized cutouts in them in the regular 10x10 carrier.

Using the largest glass carrier with smaller sized negatives. Multiple ways I do it on multiple enlargers.

    1) Built in masking. My Phillips has this, but it is not large format (6x7 only).

    2) Overlay masks. I use a series of cardboard or plastic masks that fit over the top glass on my Omega 4x5 enlarger glass.

    3) Negateil masks. This is how I currently do it with my Durst L1840. Since the Negateil carrier is so bulky and no place to store it, I just keep it on the enlarger all the time. Its masks only come in on 2 sides, so I made custom masks with different sized openings. Again this is how I can use my Durst L1840 10x10 glass carrier for all formats down to 35mm.

    4) Homaskset. I have never seen these for sale, but they would not be hard to make. The Durst 10x10 LARANEG holder has clips below the bottom glass to hold thin masking plates. They would need to be about 2mm thin to fit under the clips, but cardboard might be too flimsy.

I have no picture of these, and since getting my Negateil (above) I stopped looking for them.

    5) Separate pre-masked carriers. Since my Minolta enlarger has a foam rubber covered negative stage, it will hold simple glass-sandwich carriers with no frame. I made separate carriers, pre-masked with tape for each film format. They are held together with a tape hinge.

I have 2) of the Grane 205 holders. What's the difference between the Grand 205 and the NEGA 205?

I have one of there: Can someone identify it? It has a hinged frame and a focusing target. No name plate.
