I too have an old MPP, a Mk VI Micro Technical, and I've made my own viewing hood/cloth from white* black-out material bought from the market, lined with black taffeta, on the inside. Not owning a sewing machine, I used adhesive Velcro (hook & loop) material to hold the two layers together, and provide some adjustment if necessary. Total cost was around £7. The Velcro makes the joins somewhat stiff, and sewing it together would have been better.
*Don't ask me why black-out material comes with a white fiinish! I guess it's used to reflect sunlight off sun-sensitive curtain material.
