    Lens spanner wrench

Who sells a good one? I had one made by the late Stephen Shuart, but it has disappeared somewhere in my travels. They are useful tools.

Rodenstock/Linos, works on Copal, Compur, Prontor 0, 1 and 3 shutters. Fits your shirt pocket, but does not work with recessed areas on the back of boards.

When did Stephen die? I used to sell him quite a bit of the items he sold.

I bought one from S K Grimes recently. It is more flexible than the flat sheet styled ones. The ones that S K Grimes sells are heavy duty, and will fit retaining ring widths from 4-3/4 inch to the smallest.

I'm happy to report that Stephen Shuart is still around - I purchased a ground glass from him just this week. He's on Cape Cod now, no longer in Pennsylvania, and does business primarily through eBay.

Re spanners, I use a matched pair of SK Grimes spanners - one pointed tip, one flat tip.

Unless you apply either to a large and difficult ring. I bent both of his spanners in an attempt. Perhaps they have changed the alloy since.

Thanks, all. I remember Mr. Shuart from Shutterbug ads in the pre-internet days. Glad to hear he's still alive and kicking.

Bought my first LF lens, a 21" Kodak Anastigmat from SS, on recommendation of John Layton of this forumddf. Still have it to this day!
