    Classifieds??

Hi! So I'm jumping into large format and figured might as well go all out so I'm jumping straight into wet plate. But I'm looking for a good place other than auction site to find a trusty used 4x5 or 5x7 but I can't find a classified section here. Is there anywhere else you recommend I look???

Per Forum guidelines, you will have access to our FS and WTB sections after you have been a member for 30 days.

Besides here there is also APUG's (Analog Photographer's Users Group) classified section. They have the same rules as us about being a member for a month so you might want to join right away. A lot of the times they have the same cameras for sale too due to people like me who are members to both forums.

Welcome to the forum. We are glad to have you!

That Tachi was a bargain but it's now sold anyway. Too purty to do wet plate with though!

Yeah it was too nice to mess up I think haha. I don't mind paying that much but not an ideal candidate for my first camera.

Can someone help a guy eager to start in wet plate? Waiting 30 days can be excruciating.... Have any of us done it recently? :-)

You might want to explain why you say this

    Sure, Kirk.

Wet plate is, well, wet. I've never done it myself but I have seen cameras that have been used for wet plate and sometimes the "wet" gets on the camera. Some say that they are extremely careful and it hasn't happened to them but I know Murphy's law really well.

I used to own a Tachihara 4x5 and they are pretty. The Cherry wood is sickly sweet with all the varnish. Kind of like a candy apple red paint job on a 57' Chevy. I was always afraid of scratching the thing. Now I own a second hand Wehman. It's kind of like my Jeep. Those scratches were earned and are character! Well, that's what I keep telling myself.

After way more than a thousand plates, I have yet to have the first drop hit the camera. Just sayin'...
