600mm FUJINON f/12 for whole plate?

Have been looking at a 600mm FUJINON f/12 lens to use on my whole plate camera. Diagonal of a 6 1/2 x 8 1/2 negative is 270mm. Actual useable image area of a whole plate negative measures out at 260mm. Fuji lists several of their lenses (including the 600mm) as covering 6 1/2 x 8 1/2 with image circles of 260mm. Does anyone know if their published lens info said to be covering whole plate with image circles of 260mm actually covers even more when stopped down (like G-Clarons)? Or (specifically) is the 600mm f/12 lens made to be used only directly on center with no movements possible at infinity?
    thanks

The 600 Fuji C has even been routinely used on cameras as large as 20X24, but that's a slightly bigger format than ideal. Your plate size is tiny compared to that. Lots of Fuji lenses will easily cover your needs. Even my Fuji 240 A covers 8x10 with ample wiggle room.

Do or do not. There is no try.

Greg, are you talking about the Fujinon-T (600mm f/12) or the Fujinon-C (600mm f/11.5)? I think the former, in which case Drew's response may not be relevant to you.

Definitely not the C or CS with its (quote FUJI) 620mm image circle, but the T or TS f/12 telephoto optic.

The t600 specs says that it covers a 260mm circle, see graph, page 9

Re: 600mm FUJINON f/12 for whole plate?

So this morning it was in the low 50s here in southern New England. Before having all the relatives over, was able to get out and shoot 2 sheets of 8x10 film with the 600mm f/12 Fujinon T at f/45 and f/90 (smallest marked aperture) focused just shy of infinity. Partly cloudy sky with full sunlight about a third of the time. Wind was very gusty but every now and then a lull, so took me some time to shoot the negatives when a lull match a period of full sun. Felt good to shoot my first sheets of film in 2019 on the morning of the first day of the year, even though they were lens test shots. Lens definitely does cover the Whole Plate format. Measured it to cover an image circle 273mm in diameter. So in fact does cover a sheet of 6 1/2 x 8 1/2 in film, but with no room for error. Since my mat size is 6 x 8 inches, in fact gives me a smidgen of room for error (lens not being absolutely exactly on center with the film back). Coverage at f/90 probably covered a mm or two more than at f/45, but hard to measure exactly. Was impressed with the image shot at f/90... under high magnification the effects of diffraction noticeable, but really doubt you'd be able to see it in a contact print and definitely not in a 1:1 print made from digital negative. Sharp cut off of the projected image circle. Definitely a keeper for my whole plate camera.
