    dry plate originals

I recently purchased a set of 5x7 holders, one of which had 2 dry plates still in it. I didn't really realize they were "plate" holders until I received them.
Anyway, Here are scans of the 2, and the plates themselves.

They are interesting as, "one day in the life of a photographer" -- seeing the poses change, and the baby moving during the take.

    Enjoy.

    Re: dry plate originals

One of my co-workers loaned me his grandfather's glass plates (this week). They were made in Southern California. The first two I tried to print were of his great grandparents and of a lineman on a tree (that was freshly trimmed to be a power pole). I am thrilled to be able to see them, print them and give them back to the family. There are 4x5, 5x5, 5x7 and 8x10 plates. There are about 50 plates in the collection. Printing the plates is like driving a classic car.

I assume the plates were already developed?

    Thanks for posting!

hahaha <snort> Yes. they were already developed. The scan doesn't show the silver around the edge.

I found in a holder and lost 1/4 glass plate, which was exposed but I think never processed. It had... an image that diminished the longer I looked at it. I put it away in a dark place.

I also have shot 'NOS' plates that were 80 years old, not great stuff, but an image can be made.

    That's a sharp image Jac!

Your images immediately brought to mind this sad song and video. I was lucky, but I still tempt...

    The good old days.

Thanks for the video Randy. It surely show that the "Good Old Days" weren't so good. It brings back memories of my dirt track days, which didn't last long because i decided I would rather live a normal life.
