Today one of my generous neighbors presented me with a ‘camera box’ that he thought I might find useful... seems like anything in the community that could possibly have anything to do with big cameras finds it’s way to my door... now this box has been sitting in their barn for many years but their family consensus is that the box at one time held something to do with a large camera and may have indeed been the carrying case.

Now what I find strange is that the camera box compartments and drawer are lined with what
appears to be lead or zinc.... does this make sense? Just wondering if cases of this ilk were ever manufactured ... is it perhaps a custom case... or made for another purpose and adapted to hold the large camera. The outer dimensions are 18x15x10 and the outer hardware is rather like that found on an old steamer trunk with corner protectors and strapping. Any insights as to the true nature of this very old ‘camera box’ would certainly be appreciated.
