I was there a few years ago and wind is a big factor. The weather is variable because the glaciers will make their own weather. I took my heaviest tripod, and a canvas bag to hold a rock off the center hook; but be aware that the rock/bag touch the ground so it does not swing in the wind. I also extended the tripod legs and placed them apart to give the broadest base possible. Do not use too long a lens that you have too much bellows draw, but put something under the bellows to stabilize it. Lastly, if you can, use your vehicle as a wind break. Also be aware that alll shoulders on the roads may be very soft!
