How to focus fast with a Sinar P2

    Dear all,

I had previously a Sinar F1 which had a clever system to calculate the right tilt angle.

Now I have bought a second hand P2 which has geared tilt and swing.

There is no tilt calculator on my P2. Maybe because it not needed thanks to asymmetrical movements ? How do you focus fast with the P2 ?

It should be a piece of cake for some of you as I read the P2 is one of the easiest to focus.

I guess you focus on 1 line (H or V) than use the geared swing or tilt (it moves like the Orbix) until you get the second line on focus. Is that right or is there something that gives you the angle to report on the front or rear standard like a tilt calculator on the F1 with its base tilt ?

Is there some documentation to explain the way to get the right tilt/swing as it is the case for the Dof calculator on Sinarbron.com ?

Thanks to all of you that will be kind enough to share their knowledge with me.

    Regards,

    Ben.

I have not used the P2, but had a P. You are right about the procedure. On the P there was an angle scale on the side of the standard that indicated the ange you had tilted when you had both points in focus. On the P2, I belive it is on the left side (as you are behind the camera.) The advantage of the assymetrical tilt is that you can see both points in focus simultaneously unlike the two-point system on the f series.

    Thanks Jerry.

So the process is essencially visual. Both lines "get" into focus as you tilt or swing. You do not report any angle on the standards like on the F's.

    It's indeed very fast.

    Am I Right ?

    Thanks again

Yes, you just tilt or swing the back. The option is to leave the back where it is, or to retun it to zero and set the same angle(s) on the front.
