    Scanner Died. What to get?

    My Epson 4870 is toast.

I'd like a v750, but am broke, and the 4870, with wet-mounting, has done a great job on b+w 4x5 (and an almost adequate job on med. format color).

What's the best cheap scanner to get? i was intrigued by the v500, but it seems to not do 4x5 film.

Be sure to check Epson’s Clearance Center on a regular basis.

    Occasionally, a refurbished Epson 4990 will pop-up for $279 w/ free shipping.

Mine arrived w/o a fingerprint, and I’ve been smiling ever since.

You are correct Paul, the V500 does not do 4x5, though some people will eroneously insist that it does.

Maybe someone would trade for a nice print.

I'll second the clearance center. Got me a Refurb 4990 and haven't looked back.

It's impossible to tell scans from a 750 and 4990 apart....

    Frank is 100% correct.

The Epson 4990 is great. They show up here in the $200-$250 range. Place a WTB ad here. Something may happen.

Thanks for all the info. I'll watch ebay and post a wtb here.
Any non-epson options? I just realized that the three things of mine that broke in the last year were all made by that company. Worked great in their day, but it was not a long day.

I can't say enough bad things about Microtek scanners' quality control....
