I've never been able to find a bulk 1/2" foam that's its own durable finished surface, especially if it needs to be low-friction as well. Have you seen something similar in use in another product? If so I'd try to contact them for their source. I ended up settling for ripstop nylon liner over closed-cell foam.

Neoprene was the closest I ever found to a durable stand-alone foam, but didn't like the high friction surface and texture of it. McMaster has it in thicknesses from 1/8" through 1" with a bunch in between. It's abrasion and weather resistant, and there's an adhesive-backed version, but it's expensive. It's also relatively heavy at 17 lbs per cubic foot. EVA foams are around 2 lbs/cu.ft.

They also have an 'Abrasion Resistant Fabric Faced Neoprene' but that's only available in 1/4" max. Never have tried that.

I'm making cases for film holders. I used flooring when I remodeled my kitchen.

How about Neoprene wetsuit fabric. Or maybe 200 Denier Oxford Foam Laminate*from Seattle fabrics. Scroll down , it's near the bottom. http://www.seattlefabrics.com/neopre...oam%20Laminate

I actually thought the synthetic cork might have potential, but suspect it's to firm. Randy's stuff looks nice too, other than the price.

I'm ordering this in black to check it, adding it to an order I was building.
