The main is actually a gridded 2x3 soft box, feathered to miss the background, as you're suggesting, but too wide, perhaps. I probably should burn that reflection down a bit more. . . there's detail in the neg to do it.

By the way, I also had a background light down low to put a sunburst behind the shoulders, but decided to go more Steichen than Karsh, and left it turned off.

There's a later version here where I made everything less contrasty and brought the highlights down--as it wore on me the image I put up started to feel too harsh: https://www.flickr.com/photos/michae...15462/sizes/c/
Thanks, but I'd rather just watch:

Yeah in my opinion the softbox may have been a little too wide. Strip boxes are generally pretty thin but it would have lit the subject the same but kept a smaller/thinner reflection

After quite a hiatus I used my Alpina for some portraits. This shot is with my Sinar Alpina w/Xenar 150mm f/5.6 and what happens when you forget what film is loaded - this is Portra 160VC stand developed in Rodinal 1:100

Here is some rather expired Ektachrome E100VS in Arista E-6.

Finally, one of my last shots with FP-100C45.

Ari, that's a natural feeling portrait. The utter lack of harshness is very appealing. Please stop making me want to get a Cooke lens!

Call it a happy accident - I had no intentions on having that happen, it was in a holder labeled as Plus-X. Just a good reason not to take off too much time from shooting LF.

Thank you, Peter; sorry, I can't help with the not-wanting-a-Cooke part.
