    Greetings from Southern Illinois

71 year-old geezer with 56 years in photography, but with a 30-plus years absence of true LF involvement. I cut my eye teeth on a 3x4 Anniversary Speed when I was named HS yearbook photo editor. This was back in the days of film packs and using those #22 flashbulbs, which were blinding when they accidentally went off in one's eye!. I had a portrait/commercial studio back in the 80s and had a cheap 4x5 which was used for studio portraits only. My love affair with Graphics has continued to this day, as I have a trusty Super Speed and Pacemaker Speed. I have decided to move up to 8x10, so I ordered a V8 from Barry on May 5. IF and when I ever get the camera, I look forward to using it! I welcome any questions and comments and just want to add that I am truly in awe at the breadth of knowledge some of you possess on here. I have subscribed to Steve's magazine for years and am so pleased to see LF alive and well!.......Bob Goldasich....Carterville, Il

Welcome to the forum, Bob. I worked in So. IL back in the mid-1980's -- Mt Vernon and Sparta. I seem to recall stopping several times in Carterville for a BBQ place as I drove between there and Nashville. It's a small world, eh?

Brian: Thanks for the welcome......speaking of Carterville, one of my other careers was as a Social Security Disability Hearing Officer...I drove from Springfield to the Carbondale SS office for seven years to conduct face-to-face heaings, but don't ever recall seeing signs for Carterville!....Bob

    yo Bob,
My family is all from the White County / Carmi area.

Dave: Thanks much!....I grew up in Litchfield, but moved down here when I returned from Arizona in 2012.....I drive a Mustang, so I was trying to avoid the snow belt. Needless to say, that strategy hasn"t worked out so well, as the snow has followed me down here. After a wait of six months, with a litany of excuses from Barry, I am pretty frustrated at this point, as you can imagine.....Bob

Matthew-thanks....I have fond memories of Kankakee.....i attended ISU for my undergrad work after Vietnam starting in 1968..I met a grad student from Kankakee whom I dated for several years and would visit her family there. ..I later conducted some disability hearings at the Kankakee SS office and always enjoyed my time there.....Bob

Matthew: I went to ISU on a Illinois Military Scholarship, which meant that I only had to pay $46.50 a semester. Quite a bargain!....I also received $300 a month from the GI Bill, which went pretty far back in those days. I checked out SIU, but it was one of the top party schools in the country at the time. No way I would have made it through. The funny part was that I was a member of the ISU Veterans Club, and we had to meet in Bloomington since Normal was dry at that time. All those years they lost all that liquor revenue to Bloomington, which is no longer the case, of course.
