    Powerlook 3000

    Hi folks,

I was in the market for a new scanner. I currently have an Epson 4180 that is capable of scanning Medium Format films. I mostly shoots slides, Velvia 50, and was in tha market for a new scanner. I was offered a Howtek D4000 for $1500 but it was too expensive for me right now, besides if I really had a keeper I would have it professional scanned at westcoastimaging.com. I ran across a Powerlook 3000 for under $200. On paper in looked good - maybe up to par with the new Epson 4870 and Microtek 1800f/2500f. I think the Dmax is around 3.5 which is better than my 4180. I was wondering if there are other out there who have succesfully used this scanner for 4x5 and 6x7 slides? I want to make prints up to 16x24, maybe larger. I'm also wondering if I could use the Kami mounting fluids on this scanner as well...

    Thanks,

    Adonis

    Powerlook 3000

I've used a friend's Powerlook 3000 numerous times, and would certainly recomend it. I have scanned everything from 35mm to 8"x10" on it, and while it was a little tricky avoiding newton rings with the 4x5's (not the 8x10 film, oddly enough) it was very high in quality. You shoudl keep in mind the full resolution is only in a narrow band, wide enough for MF film.

And keep in mind it is anything but small, requiring a desk all of its own, pretty much.
