My "manual focus gadget" is even simpler than Jerry`s one:



The plastic "crown" is simply glued to the ruler. It works like a charm, exactly as Jerry mention. Just another idea.

A VOM is all you need, but I suggest you find someone like an old tube radio guy.

However, first I would look for a blown internal fuse, look and smell everything. Sometimes one wire is loose, sometimes a motor burns out.

The radio guy sounds like a good idea. When it first failed I took the motor housing apart and completely disassembled the innards but found nothing that looked or smelled out of the ordinary, no bad wire connections. Had a lot of fun though getting it properly put back together again so the gear set was ok - definitely required a specific assembly sequence. There are no fuses or belts. Strongly suspect a burned out motor. Onward and upward!
