The camera is placed on a tripod, pointing down. I remove the camera back by removing 4 thumb screws. Place the negative in a negative holder, and set it on the back of the camera. Then place a diffuser slightly above that. And on top of everything I set a homemade lamphouse. I prefer this orientation over that of placing the camera horizontal. All view cameras are really just enlargers in disguise. There's really nothing new going on here. This is how enlargers came about in the 19th century. Cameras were used both for taking and enlarging. Before electricity there was gaslight and sunlight.

I was just curious. I experiment with light sources. Your link was very interesting. I was aware of enlarging cameras, but had not seen that page and camera with the slot loading rear frame. Great ideas for DIY efforts.

I have a Levy copy camera that is exquisitely made, of similar design with the nicest and heaviest leather bellows I have ever seen. They still look new. I should make it an horizontal enlarger, just so I can use it once in a Blue Moon.

I will do my best to avoid gaslight devices...

Not too long ago I had a Kodak Enlarging Camera with an opening of 10"x10" at the rear. It had the frames for 8x10, 5x6, etc negatives. Because of it's size I could only use it on the horizontal. After battling that arrangement for several weeks, I now realized why vertical enlargers became so popular. The problem wasn't the camera as much as was fiddling with the photographic paper on a vertical easel.

Yes, but the only way to make murals.

I like to explore all options.

Rolls of RC are not that expensive...
