Anyone who was there who's curious: once I got everything lubed, some stripped screw holes filled, and all tightened down, the tripod is working fine, and is a lot more steady than it was with everything loose. The handle that was hanging up on the leg turns out to be brass, and so bending it back to where it belongs was easy.

Very nice, now use it in the field as it is too good to use in your impressive studio.
